Windsor Representative Seeks To Inspire Millennial Voters
With an event coming up at the State Capitol, state Rep. Brandon McGee (D-Hartford) wants to inspire young people to vote.

WINDSOR, CT - State Rep. Brandon McGee (D-Hartford, Windsor) will be holding a rally to inspire young adults across the state. The event, Millennials in Motion, is set to take place at the State Capitol Building on Saturday, Oct. 27 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
According to a statement from McGee, the rally will feature youth speakers, community youth leaders, music, and more. The goal of the event is to inspire the youth to use their voice and cast a vote on Election Day.
Young voters, those ages 18 to 29, make up about 31 percent of the electorate according to the Pew Research Center, the highest of any age group. Despite that, young adults have consistently shown the lowest turnout rates.

However, McGee noted that 2018 seems poised for change with young people organizing and becoming more politically active, such as the protests following the Parkland shooting.

“Casting your vote is one of the easiest and most obtainable ways to participate in the political process,” McGee said in a statement. “Not only is it your constitutional right but you can truly enact change when you vote. Young adults are a demographic group that typically does not turn out to vote. Through this event, we hope to show young people that they can make a difference and that their vote does matter.”
The event will feature young adult speaker and youth leaders from the community.
“It was important for me to share the stage with these inspiring young adults," McGee said. "I want the young people in the audience to hear from their peers who are passionate about voting. They’ve heard about registering and voting enough from adults – they know the story. But, to hear the passion and the reasons why from someone their age going through the same experiences, that might be just enough to get them to their polling place."
