Work Wrapping Up on Removal of Carpenter Dam in Meriden
The dam has been a part of the Quinnipiac River for generations.

MERIDEN, CT — Work crews are completing the teardown of the Carpenter Dam on the Quinnipiac River in Meriden, reports the Meriden Record-Journal.
The dam has been a part of the river for 150 years, but its removal will allow salmon, shad alewives and herring, among other fish, to return.
A contamination settlement of $800,000 with the Southington landfill is paying for the demolition; two dams on the river are being removed to help return the body of water to its natural state.
