1 Dead, 2 Seriously Injured In Naugatuck Crash: Police

Part of Route 63 is closed, according to state transportation officials.

NAUGATUCK, CT — One person was killed and two others were seriously injured in a two-vehicle crash Sunday in Naugatuck, according to police.

The crash happened at the intersection of Route 63 and Mill Street on Sunday afternoon. Police said the surviving occupants were taken to area hospitals for treatment of serious injuries.

Police identified Carol Gironda, 69, of Naugatuck, as the victim of the fatal crash in an update on Monday afternoon.

The Naugatuck Valley Collision Investigation Team has taken over the investigation of the crash, officials said.

Route 63 was closed between Porter Avenue and Allerton Farms Road in Middlebury for several hours on Sunday. It reopened around 9 p.m. on Sunday, according to state transportation officials.
