Basement Fire Doused By Naugatuck Firefighters

The homeowner and several pets were able to successfully get out of the Highland Avenue home.

NAUGATUCK, CT — A Highland Avenue homeowner and her dogs were able to evacuate their home early Wednesday after a fire broke out in the basement, according to Naugatuck fire officials.

No injuries were reported in the 3 a.m. blaze, which was extinguished quickly, but not before firefighters successfully removed a pet rabbit and parrot from the home.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, according to officials.
