Celebrate Black Music Month in June with Macy Gray

With June being Black Music Month and Juneteenth right around the corner, now is an especially important time to celebrate Black culture, history, and life. Being purposeful about the Black musicians you listen to is a great way to celebrate this heritage month.

GRAMMY award-winning artist and legendary R&B/soul singer-songwriter, musician, and record producer, Macy Gray, has released singles “Save Some,” and “Thinking of You,” which are about celebrating life moving forward after the year we experienced undergoing the pandemic.

Gray’s new single “Save Some” was recorded with the musical masterminds of D’Sound, a Norwegian neo soul band composed of drummer Kim Ofstad, bassist, Jonny Sjo, and vocalist Simone Eriksrud. A song that is the embodiment of pure joy and self-expression, the release of “Save Some” could not come at a better time as we are all in need of something to lift our spirits. The care-free lyrics to “Save Some” combined with the funky and fresh instrumentals offer us all the breath of fresh air needed to leave the past in the past as we finally reunite with friends, family, and loved ones this summer.

“Thinking of You” embodies the same spirited messaging. Amid the pandemic, Gray utilized the downtime to tap deeper into her creativity and wrote and recorded “Thinking of You.” Striving to help America heal through the power of music, “Thinking of You” is an ode to the beauty and joy of humanity and reinforces how much there is to be grateful for. The release of “Thinking of You” also serves as the debut of Gray’s new band, Macy Gray and The California Jet Club, a collective composed of Gray, bassist Alex Hyhn, drummer Tamir Barzilay, and keyboardist Billy Wes.
