City Hill Middle School students will be able to compete in soccer and outdoor track and field against other local middle schools next year.
Boys’ and girls’ soccer will be played in the fall, while track and field for boys and girls will be in the spring. The school already has competitive basketball for boys and girls, plus baseball and softball, cross country and cheerleading. There are other intramural sports.
The Board of Education said it was 100 percent behind the track and soccer plan, which was presented by Naugatuck High School athletic director Tom Pompei. He and City Hill Principal Brian Hendrickson worked on the plans after school board member Jim Jordan brought forth the idea.Â
