Dean Has Dandy Triple A Debut

Naugatuck's Pat Dean had a no-hitter going into the sixth inning against the Durham Bulls Monday night.

Press release from the Rochester, N.Y., Red Wings:

Left-handed pitcher Pat Dean of Naugatuck dazzled in his Triple-A debut Monday night as he spun seven scoreless innings in the Red Wings' 4-2 win over the Durham Bulls in game one of their four-game series and 11-game road trip.

The Wings took a 4-0 into the ninth inning, but the Bulls made things interesting plating a pair of runs before Shairon Martis stranded the bases loaded to lock down his team-leading 10th save of the season and preserve the Wings 4-2 win.

Rochester remains two games in front in the IL North as Pawtucket came from behind in the 8th inning to beat Buffalo Monday night to keep pace with the Red Wings.

Dean, promoted from Double-A New Britain on Monday to make the spot start, allowed just two hits and three walks while facing only four over the minimum. The southpaw took a no-hitter into the sixth inning before a leadoff bunt single by Kevin Kiermaier broke up the no-no.

The 24-year-old, who was just 6-11 with a 4.68 ERA in 22 starts at New Britain this season, didn't allow a Bulls base runner to reach third base and only twice did a runner reach as far as second against him.

Making his outing that much more impressive, the Twins third-round pick in 2010 blanked the IL's most potent offense. The Bulls entered the day with league's best batting average and the most runs scored.

The Wings offense took awhile to get started but finally provided some support for their starter in the late innings.

Rochester broke through in the sixth inning when Jeff Clement laced a single to center scoring Eduardo Escobar who walked to lead off the inning. Chris Parmelee, who had an apparent home run overturned to a double, was thrown out by Kiermaier trying to score from second.
