DUI Driver Hits Mailbox And Car: Naugatuck Police

NAUGATUCK, CT — Naugatuck Police say they have made an arrest after investigating a hit-and-run accident where a Subaru Legacy Outback hit a garbage can, mailbox, and a parked car in a driveway.

At 1 a.m. on Aug. 27, police responded to the evading accident where the vehicle "failed to negotiate a curve on Arch Street and collided with a garbage can, mailbox, and a vehicle parked in a residential driveway on Scott Street," police said.

Police say Linda Mortagua, 28, who was located a short time after the collision, is charged with DWI, evading responsibility, and failure to maintain lane, police said.

Mortagua was released on a $500 bond and is scheduled to appear at Waterbury Court on Sept. 5. There were no reported injuries.

"Video footage of the incident as it unfolded was uploaded and shared on the Ring.com public community app. This footage not only assisted officers in their investigation but also demonstrated the value of this program. We are sharing the footage on our Facebook page in hopes of showing the community how you can assist us in solving crimes in Naugatuck," police said in a statement.
