At least seven people, including three children, are displaced from their home after fire broke out in the right-side apartment at 551 N. Main St. In Naugatuck just before noon Thursday.
Nobody was injured and three of five cats have been rescued.
Firefighters are still on scene. We will bring you more information as it becomes available.
This is the same multifamily house where a fire broke out on April 2Â in the left-side apartment. That fire was deemed accidental as someone left food on the stove before falling asleep. He was displaced and was not injured.
Occupant Raeanne Henry said her sister bought her a smoke detector after the April fire.
"That smoke detector picked this up right away," she said.
She, her husband Gordon Henry, their son Jeremy Schiavo, plus another adult and three young children will be displaced. One adult was taken to a hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation; nobody else was injured.
The American Red Cross was called to help find the occupants temporary shelter.Â
Fire Chief Ken Hanks said fire marshals are working to figure out what caused the fire, which began in the basement. There was minimal fire damage but significant smoke damage.Â
