Injured Hiker Rescued At Naugatuck State Forest
The woman broke her leg in two places after slipping down a hill while walking her dog on a trail, according to officials.
NAUGATUCK, CT — Firefighters rescued a hiker who broke her leg in two places while she was walking her dog on a trail at Naugatuck State Forest over the weekend, according to officials.
Crews from Beacon Hose Co. No. 1 and the Naugatuck Fire Department responded to assist an injured hiker in Naugatuck State Forest on Saturday. Another hiker, Kevin Doris of Naugatuck, found the woman who had injured her ankle while walking her dog along the white trail, officials wrote in a post on the Naugatuck Fire Department’s Facebook page.
Doris stayed with the woman until crews arrived.

“Northwest Connecticut Public Safety Communication Center was able to triangulate and share the 911 callers cell number, allowing command to communicate and pinpoint the exact location,” officials wrote. “The collaborative effort of everyone involved allowed rescue crews to gain information, bring resources efficiently to the injured party.
“The patient was transported by Beacon Hose ambulance to Waterbury Hospital. Family members came to the scene to finish walking the dog!”

The injured hiker, Alexis Stamos, wrote in the comments under the Facebook post that X-rays confirmed that she broke her ankle/leg in two places.
“Oh my goodness, what an adventure,” Stamos wrote. “Thank you guys ALL so much. I am indebted to you! X-rays confirmed I did break my ankle/leg in two places and I am waiting at the hospital now to determine if I need surgery or just a cast. Most especially, thank you for making sure my Georgia was safe and sound! You guys are the best.”
Stamos’ sister, Angelika Cody, wrote in another comment that Stamos had “slipped on mud down a little hill and heard a pop.”
