The Naugatuck Board of Education is pleased to announce the following appointments to position of Elementary Principal within the District effective July 1, 2013.

Mrs. Kathryn Taylor will be the Principal for Hop Brook Elementary School.  Kathy has a B.S. Degree in Elementary Education, a B.A. Degree in Psychology, an M.A. Degree in Remedial Reading & Remedial Language Arts and a Sixth Year Professional Diploma in Educational Leadership from Southern Connecticut State University, and most recently has held the position of Administrative Intern within the Naugatuck Public School District.  Prior to becoming an Administrative Intern, Kathy held the position of Reading Specialist at Naugatuck High School and then Western Elementary School from 2007 – 2013, and from 2002 – 2007 held the position of Grade 3 Teacher at Central Avenue School.  Previous to her appointment as a Grade 3 Teacher, Kathy performed in the capacity of After School Literacy Teacher, Reading/ELL Tutor and Summer School Literacy Teacher in Naugatuck.

Mrs. Laura Main will be the Principal for Western Elementary School.  Laura has a B.A. Degree in English from Cornell University, an M.S. Degree in Early Childhood and Elementary Education from Bank Street College of Education, a C.A.S in Educational Leadership from Sacred Heart University and is currently a Doctoral Candidate in Instructional Leadership at Western Connecticut State University, and most recently worked for the New Canaan Public School in the capacity of Math Specialist at East School K-4 from 2006 – present and Writing Specialist K-4 from 2006 – 2007.  Prior to New Canaan, Laura spent 10 years from 1995 - 2005 working in the capacities of Math Support/Enrichment Teacher K-5, Teacher for the Gifted K-5 and Classroom Teacher K, 2 and 5 for the Westport, CT Public Schools.  Previous to Westport, Laura worked as a Grades 1/2 Teacher at Stevens Cooperative School in Hoboken, New Jersey.
