Naugatuck Pharmacy Accused of Violating Federal Law

A Naugatuck pharmacy has agreed to pay $40,000 to resolve allegations it violated the federal Controlled Substances Act, it was announced Wednesday.

The allegations against Nelson’s Pharmacy, at 153 Maple St., include the failure to insure that prescriptions it filled contained an authorized practitioner’s DEA number, and the failure to account for accurate inventories of Oxycodone 10 mg. tablets, Oxycodone 15 mg. tablets, Oxycodone 30 mg. tablets and Endocet 10/325 tablets.

The announcement was made by the U.S. Attorney's office Wednesday. It also claimed that Howe’s Pharmacy in Milford will pay $50,000 to resolve allegations that the Broad Street pharmacy: failed to ensure prescriptions were issued for medically appropriate reasons; failed to verify the signatures of prescribing physicians; and filled a prescription for “office use” rather than to an individual, among other claims.

Several times Howe’s Pharmacy allegedly filled a postdated prescription, also a violation of the federal law, according to the release.
