Naugatuck Public Schools Appoints 3 New Administrators

The three administrators were appointed by the Naugatuck Board of Education this week.

NAUGATUCK, CT — The Board of Education hired three new administrators June 29.

Theresa Rangel will join Naugatuck Schools as Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion; Melissa Carbone will be the new Coordinator of Pupil Services; and Michael Bonnardi will be Facilities Director.

Rangel will join Naugatuck Schools from Norwalk Public Schools where she was principal of Tracey Magnet School since 2015. Before that, she worked as Curriculum & Instruction Site Director in Norwalk, as an instructional coach in Newington and a teacher in Danbury.

As a principal, Rangel created and implemented a character education program earning her school recognition as Connecticut’s only national school of character by Character.org.

She is focused on establishing a positive, stimulating learning environment for students, and a whole-child education-focused setting for teachers.

Rangel designed and implemented professional development related to character education, growth mindset and equity and inclusion. Her efforts moved Tracey from one of the district's lowest performing schools to one of the state’s highest performing schools.

Rangel was awarded the prestigious "Child of America Award" from the Carver Foundation in 2019.

Rangel earned her Educational Leadership Certification from Sacred Heart University and her master’s degree in Instructional Technology from West Conn.

Carbone will come to Naugatuck from Northend Elementary School in New Britain where she has worked as assistant principal since 2019. As assistant principal, Melissa used data to implement best practices to move the school forward.

Her career in New Britain included positions as a special education and lead teacher. She was the 2017-18 Chamberlain Elementary Teacher of the Year. She earned her certification in Administrative Leadership from Sacred Heart University after earning her Masters in Special Education from University of Saint Joseph College.

Bonnardi will come to Naugatuck after working at Central Connecticut Coast YMCA in New Haven where he was Director of Property Management. He also taught Tourism and Hospitality Studies at Central Connecticut State University.

Bonnardi and Rangel both live in Naugatuck, while Carbone lives in Bristol.
