Naugatuck Woman With Firearm Fought With Police Officers: PD

NAUGATUCK, CT — A 46-year-old armed — and possibly intoxicated — Naugatuck woman fought with officers last weekend when the officers were investigating a hit-and-run crash in which she was the suspected driver.

Details of the struggle over the weapon were not disclosed, but no injuries were reported in the incident at the home of the suspect, Khristine Long, on Bluebird Drive.

Long was charged with the following:

• Illegally carrying a firearm while under the influence of drugs or alcohol
• Interfering with an officer
• Assault on public safety or emergency medical personnel
• First-degree reckless endangerment
• Second-degree breach of peace

The incident began on the afternoon of May 28 when Naugatuck police, fire and emergency medical personnel were sent to the 200 block of May Street following a report of a vehicle crashing into a telephone pole.

"Upon arrival Officers were unable to locate a vehicle, however observed a heavily damaged telephone pole that was cracked in multiple places, as well as a destroyed fire hydrant," Naugatuck police said. "Through investigation, officers developed a suspect quickly, and responded to the address of that suspect."

That person was Long, who police said confronted officers and interfered with their investigation.

"[Long] appeared to be intoxicated and/or under the influence of a narcotic and was in possession of a firearm," police said. "When officers attempted to remove the firearm from the accused's possession and conduct an arrest, the accused became combative and struggled with officers over the firearm."

Officers eventually got the weapon away from Long and placed her under arrest. She was held lieu of bail of $25,000 and is scheduled to appear in Waterbury Superior Court at a later date.
