Naugatuck Administrator Gets New Job After Social Media Scandal

Johnna Hunt is being reassigned out of Naugatuck High School after the discovery of racist social media messages by her daughter.

NAUGATUCK, CT — The mother of the teen girl at the center of a racist social media message scandal will have a new job this fall in the Naugatuck Public School System where she has worked for more than 20 years, reported the Republican-American.

Johnna Hunt, who is also the wife of Naugatuck Police Chief Steven Hunt, is an assistant principal at Naugatuck High School, but has been on administrative leave since January when her daughter's old social media messages were discovered. The messages contained ugly, violent sentiments against African-Americans.

On July 1, Hunt will be reassigned to her former position as the principal of Hillside Intermediate School, and the school's current principal, Giovanni Testani, will be moved to another position in the district. Hunt will finish out the current school year on remote assignment for the district's Central Office.

In separate investigative reports, both Hunt and her husband were found to have not known about the messages and did not facilitate them.

The Greater Waterbury NAACP also investigated the situation and issued several recommenations for the community to help improve race relations.
