Naugatuck Valley Community College is offering a new Basic Manufacturing Certificate course a strong credential for local manufacturing jobs

WATERBURY, CT - Naugatuck Valley Community College, in collaboration with the Northwest Regional Workforce Investment Board, is offering a new Basic Manufacturing Certificate course, a strong credential for local manufacturing jobs. Students may qualify for tuition-free enrollment, which runs for 170 hours from September 8 through December 20, 2021, on Monday evenings from 5:30-8:30 PM, Wednesday evenings from 5:30-7:30 PM, and Saturdays from 9 AM until 4 PM.
The curriculum includes Manufacturing Math, Blueprint Reading, Metrology, OSHA 10, Bench Work, and Machine Technology. This course may be taken by students who are interested in starting a career in manufacturing as well as workers who are looking to build their skills to a higher level. Students who successfully complete will receive a certificate issued by Naugatuck Valley Community College and the option to apply these hours to a Certified State Apprenticeship.
Sharon Lutkus, Coordinator of Non-credit Manufacturing, emphasized the value of the Basic Manufacturing Certificate course as it applies to career enhancement. “If a student goes on to a state apprenticeship these hours earned carry with them, so whether they choose a job or further education, this course builds in-demand skills that translate into higher paying jobs.”
This is offered at NVCC’s Waterbury campus – in person and all on ground. Tuition-assistance from the Department of Labor may be available for students who qualify. Some restrictions apply. For more information, contact Sharon Lutkus, slutkus@nv.edu or 203-596-2197.
