Obituary: Addison Lester "Shady" Wheeler, 82, of Oakville

OAKVILLE- Addison Lester "Shady" Wheeler, 82, of Oakville, died Thursday, May 20, 2021, at Waterbury Hospital. He was the husband of Rosamarie (Tanuis) Wheeler.
Shady was born in Waterbury August 28, 1938, son of the late Lester and Mabel (Swanson) Wheeler. He was a graduate of Watertown High School. He served in the Navy 1958 - 1964, and worked in the construction industry first at Ceco and then retiring from Manafort Brothers.

Shady was a total outdoorsman. He was a member of the Naugatuck Fish and Game Club. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and gardening. He also was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox, a member of the VFW, and took great pleasure in his daily gatherings with the "D&D gang". He was devoted to his family and enjoyed attending his grandchildren's sporting events.
Besides his wife of 58 years, Shady leaves two daughters, Dawn Wright and her husband Ward of New Hartford, and Melinda Rickevicius and her husband Paul of Torrington; a son Alan Wheeler and his wife Cheryl of Torrington; a brother, Russell Wheeler of Holiday, Fla.; nine grandchildren, Kyle Rickevicius, Nicholas Rickevicius, Taylor Wheeler, Marc Rickevicius, Carter Wheeler, Savannah Wheeler, Evan Wright, Adam Wright, and Teagan Wright; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Shady was predeceased by his brother, George Wheeler; and sisters, Betty Wheeler, Violet Graveline, and Eleanor Harris.
Funeral services will be held Friday, 10 a.m., at the Hickcox Funeral Home, 195 Main St., Watertown. Burial with military honors will follow in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Watertown. Friends may call at the funeral home Thursday evening 5-8 p.m.
