“Loving mother, grandmother & great grandmother”

WATERBURY, CT - Annunziata “Nancy” M. (Brienza) Merola, 96, of Waterbury, was reunited with her husband in heaven on Monday, May 17, 2021, at River Glen Health Center in Southbury. She was the loving wife of the late Bartholomew Merola who predeceased her in 2007.

Nancy was born in Waterbury on June 3, 1924, daughter of the late Vito Antonio and Maria Lucia (Pietragallo) Brienza. Being a longtime resident of Waterbury, Nancy worked for Unisys for over fourteen years until her retirement. Throughout their retirement years, Nancy and Bert loved traveling around the United States, Italy, and several other places with their many friends and family. Being a strong woman of faith, Nancy was a devoted parishioner of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Waterbury. Above all, family was most important to Nancy, and she loved spending time with her children and grandchildren, always cooking a great meal for them.

Nancy leaves behind to cherish her memory her three children, Robert Merola of East Hampton, Marie Klein of Waterbury, Patricia Ostroski and her husband Chet of Cheshire, and her sister-in-law, Florence Merola. She also leaves behind her five grandchildren, Amanda Merola and her significant other, Jesse Powers, Michael Merola and his fiancé, Audrey Granton, Matthew Klein, Chet Ostroski III and his wife Kailee, Eric Ostroski, her great grandson, Samuel Ostroski, and her niece and nephew, Elaine Febbriello and Anthony Brienza and partner, Joe Fontayne. She was predeceased by her brother, Michael Brienza.

The Merola family would like to give a special thank you to all of the staff at River Glen Health Care of Southbury, and Masonicare Hospice for all of the outmost support, compassion and care that they showed to Nancy.
Arrangements: A funeral will be held for Nancy on Thursday, May 20, 2021, 9:00 a.m. at Chase Parkway Memorial, the Albini Family Funeral Home, 430 Chase Parkway, Waterbury, to Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Waterbury. A calling hour will be held the morning of the funeral from 8:00 – 9:00 a.m. at the funeral home.
