Cecilia “Cele” (Karwacki) Imbimbo, age 101, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Saturday, April 24, 2021. She was the loving wife of the late Frederick J. Imbimbo Sr.

Born in Union City, Naugatuck on March 15, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (Grabowski) Karwacki. Cele loved cooking for family and friends at her beach house in Milford; her baking was unparalleled and her Christmas cookies were especially sought after. She was known for her devout Catholicism, quick wit, infectious pragmatism, and her deep, lifelong love of opera and music. Cele was the steadfast, loving matriarch of our family.

Cele is the mother of Frederick J. Imbimbo, Jr of Guilford, Joseph A. Imbimbo and his wife Kathleen Kenney of Reading, MA, Michael Imbimbo and his wife Marianne (Veneziano) of Milford, and Mary Massar and her husband Thomas of Charleston, SC. She was blessed with her grandchildren Sarah Imbimbo, Virginia Veneziano, Michael (Jason) Imbimbo, Gabrielle (fiancé Lyle Birrittella) Imbimbo, Andrea (Matt) Kostinas, Stephen Massar, Eric Massar, and Sarah Massar; her great-grandchildren, Viviana Cecilia, Ryan, and Benjamin; her sister Hedwig Mezzo of Groton; as well as several generations of nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother Walter Karwacki and her sister Sophie Pitino.

Walk-through calling hours will be held on Saturday, May 1, 2021 between 8:30-9:30am at Maiorano Funeral Home, 95 Willow St., Waterbury. The funeral mass will follow at 10:00am at the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception, which will be streamed live at https://www.waterburybasilica.org/. The burial will be at Calvary Cemetery. Everyone attending will be required to wear face masks and social distancing guidelines will be strictly followed.
