Diane (Whalen) Montgomery, age 79, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, May 19, 2021.
BRISTOL, CT - Diane was born on March 29, 1942 in Waterbury, the daughter of the late William “Jim” and Eleanor (Madden) Whalen. She was a graduate of Waterbury Catholic High School and took classes and certification courses in travel. She began her career as a travel agent in Key West, Florida. Once she relocated back to Connecticut in 1981, she worked for Gadabouts Travel Agency and retired from Scully Travel after 25 years. Always with a smile and cheerful voice, Diane loved to help her clients plan their flights, cruises, tours, or lifetime dream trips. She loved her “FAM” trips all over the world as the trips familiarized her with different and exotic destinations and her trips to Las Vegas to visit family.
An avid golfer, she was a member of the Farmingbury Ladies Golf Association. She enjoyed playing solitaire on her phone and playing bingo and cards with friends in the Farmingbury Setback League.
Diane is survived by her beloved daughter and best friend Michelle (Montgomery) Laurendeau and her husband Richard of Bristol with whom she lived; her sister-in-law Margaret Whalen of Waterbury; her nieces Elizabeth Whalen Shaw and her husband Jayson and Katherine Woodard and her significant other Hector Torres; as well as her grandnephews Tim, John, and Christian and her “granddogs” Zoey, Jack, and Ben. She was predeceased by her brother Timothy J. Whalen.
Her funeral will be held on Tuesday, May 25, 2021 at 10:00am from Maiorano Funeral Home, 95 Willow St., Waterbury to Mary Mother of the Church, Sts. Peter & Paul Parish for a Mass at 11:00am.
