She leaves behind a sister, Pashako Karameta of Naugatuck, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Dorothy “Dottie” D. (Selim) Mehmetali, age 90, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Thursday, March 25, 2021 in the VITAS Unit of St. Mary’s Hospital. She was the devoted wife of the late Nexhat “John” Mehmetali.

Born in Gracë, Albania on February 8, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Ali and Azize Selim. She went to Tourtelotte Grammar School in North Grosvenordale, CT and attended high school in New York. She was a saleswoman for Kmart Corporation for over 20 years. Dorothy was a quiet lady who enjoyed the simple things in life. She loved to crochet and created beautiful blankets for family and friends. Most importantly, family was everything to Dorothy. Her family was extremely close. Dorothy enjoyed traveling, taking trips to the casino and watching classic television shows like Little House on the Prairie.
Dorothy is survive by her son, Barry Mehmetali and her daughter, Nancy Mehmetali both of Waterbury, with whom she made her home. She also leaves behind her sisters, Eva Panariti, of New Britain, Norma Perugini of Waterbury, and Pashako Karameta of Naugatuck as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers Fezi and David Selim and her sister, Joan Rossi.

Dorothy’s family would like to thank her lifelong friend, Bette Mehmet, and longtime friends Doris Maglio and Anita Richards for their friendship, care and concern shown to their mother.
Dorothy’s funeral will be held on Monday, March 29, 2021 at 9:30am at Maiorano Funeral Home, 95 Willow St., Waterbury with a parlor service from 10:30-11:00am. Burial will in follow New Pine Grove Cemetery. A walk-through calling hour will be held from 9:30-10:30am at the funeral home. Everyone attending will be required to wear face masks and social distancing guidelines will be strictly followed.
