WATERTOWN, CT - Elio Gugliotti, 73, of Watertown, passed away peacefully May 2, 2021 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of the late Grace (Bruno) Gugliotti.
Elio was born Jan. 11, 1948, in Pontelandolfo, Benevento, Italy, a son of the late Giambattista and Brigida (Gugliotti) Gugliotti. Elio immigrated to the United States in 1958. He graduated from Crosby High School, Class of 1968, Central Connecticut State University as well as the University of Bridgeport, where he earned his master's degree and his 6th Year Certificate as a teacher. Elio worked as a teacher for the City of Waterbury for over 30 years and was an active member of both the Girl and Boy Scouting communities. He was a member of The National Foreign Language Honor Society, earned the Silver Beaver Award for distinguished service to young people within a Boy Scouts of America local council, and peer-elected and inducted into the Order of the Arrow, the Boy Scouts of America Honor Society. He took great pride in his garden and enjoyed cooking, singing, camping, helping others, and being with family and friends. Elio never missed an opportunity to speak about his beautiful granddaughters.

Left to cherish his memory are his loving children, Gina Marie Fishman and her husband George of Framingham, Mass., Tina Luisa Gutierrez of Watertown, Brigitt Christina Szwaba of Watertown, John Joseph Gugliotti of Watertown, Lina Ann Gugliotti of Watertown, Elio Anthony Gugliotti Jr. of Waterbury; his sister Mary Gugliotti and her husband Giuseppe of Prospect; five grandchildren, Sierra Grace Gutierrez, Charlotte Rose Fishman, Samantha Elia Szwaba, Abigail Cameron Fishman and Madilyn Grace Szwaba. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws. Aside from his wife, he was predeceased by his son-in-law, Joseph Szwaba.
Elio’s family would like to thank the staff at Harold Leever Regional Cancer Center in Waterbury as well as The Hartford Healthcare at Home Hospice Services in Watertown for the love, care and support extended to Elio and his family during his illness.
Arrangements: Funeral Tuesday, May 11, 2021 at 9 a.m. from Chase Parkway Memorial/Albini Family Funeral Home, 430 Chase Parkway, Waterbury, to Saint John the Evangelist Church in Watertown to celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Watertown. Calling hours Monday, May 10, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
