Obituary: Joseph “Roger” Cyr, 73, of Wolcott
He worked as a funeral director for Weinstein Mortuary in Hartford, Weight Watchers in Wethersfield, and the City of Hartford.

WOLCOTT, CT - Joseph “Roger” Cyr, age 73, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Wednesday, July 7, 2021 at Yale New Haven Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Barbara (Roy) Cyr.
Born on May 11, 1948 in Madawaska, ME, Roger was the son of the late Rosaire and Alma (Chasse) Cyr who passed away at an early age. He was adopted and raised by his Uncle and Aunt, Doris and Constance (Lausier) Cyr. Roger was a 1967 graduate of South Catholic High School in Hartford and graduated from the American Academy McAllister Institute in 1972 with a degree in mortuary science. In 1979, he returned to school and attended the Computer Processing Institute.

He worked as a funeral director for Weinstein Mortuary in Hartford, Weight Watchers in Wethersfield, and the City of Hartford from where he retired after twenty years as a business systems analyst. He was a former member of the Hartford B.P.O Elks Lodge 19.
Happy, kind and generous, Roger would do anything for anyone in need. He enjoyed working in his yard and was an avid reader. He was a huge fan of the Hartford Whalers. Roger was a devoted husband, father and grandfather and in his daughters’ younger years, he coached their T-ball and soccer teams. Time spent with his family made him happiest. He loved the beach, cooking in his pizza oven and playing games.

In addition to his devoted wife Barbara, Roger is survived by his daughters Stephanie Martocchio and her husband Vinnie of Vernon, and Alissa Amara and her husband John of Madison; and his beloved grandchildren Julia Martocchio, Gianna Martocchio, Brody Amara, and Sydney Amara. He also leaves his brother Edmond Cyr of Florida; his sister Rowena Macomber of Windsor; his sisters-in-law Jean Cyr, Carol Cyr, Paulette Cyr, and Gatane Cyr; as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins and many in-laws who were his family and friends. He was predeceased by his first wife Susan (Kolakowski) Cyr and his brothers Roland Cyr, Clarence “Bob” Cyr, Chanel Cyr and Gerald Cyr.
Roger’s funeral will be held on Monday, July 12, 2021, at 10:00am from Maiorano Funeral Home, 95 Willow St., Waterbury to Mary, Mother of the Church, St. Leo the Great Parish for a Mass at 11:00am. Burial will follow in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Sunday afternoon from 2:00-4:00pm at the funeral home.
