Obituary: Matthew “Matty” A. Sivilla, 82, of Waterbury
Matty was a familiar face in the local Waterbury community where, along with his wife, he owned & operated Carousel Farms for over 25 years.

WATERBURY, CT - Mr. Matthew “Matty” A. Sivilla, age 82, passed away peacefully at Waterbury Hospital on Tuesday, March 9, 2021. He was the husband of the late Eleanor J. (Scarmella) Sivilla.

Born on October 3, 1938, in Waterbury, to the late John and Mary (Raimo) Sivilla, Matty was a graduate of Sacred Heart High School and went on to attain his Associate’s Degree. Matty was a proud veteran of the U.S. National Guards, having served for over twenty years. Matty was a familiar face in the local Waterbury community where along with his wife, Eleanor, owned and operated Carousel Farms for over 25 years until their retirement in 2015. Prior to that, Matty had a longtime career in banking which spanned over 30 years. His career began at Colonial Bank in Waterbury. He then went on to work at several other banks including North American Bank and retired from Harbor National Bank.
Matty was very active in local politics and community affairs. He was a longtime member of the Bunker Hill Neighborhood Association as well as being involved with many other civic organizations throughout the years. He was a longtime supporter of his alma mater, Sacred Heart High School, and looked forward to his weekly “Breakfast Club” gatherings with his high school classmates and lifelong friends. He was an avid basketball fan and while his kids were in school, he coached the Blessed Sacrament School girl’s basketball team. He loved good food, good music, and above all adored his grandchildren, always proud of all their accomplishments.

Matty is survived by his daughters, Kathy Gaydosh and her husband Tim of Watertown, Denise Dwyer and her partner Kevin Stewart of Bristol, and Karin Distefano and her partner Craig Barnell of Watertown; his son, Matthew J. Sivilla and his wife Joanne of Litchfield; and his beloved grandchildren: Timothy, Christopher, Lauren, and Elizabeth Gaydosh; John, Matthew, Alexa, and Jeffrey Dwyer; Aubrey and Torri Distefano; and Spencer and Cameron Sivilla. He is also survived by his brother John Sivilla and his wife Regina Bellino of Laguna, Ca, his brother-in-law Dennis Scarmella and his wife Cathy of Oakville as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to Eleanor, his beloved wife of 55 years, Matty was predeceased by his infant brother Matthew John Sivilla and his sister-in-law Vicki Barbieri and her husband Richard Barbieri.
His funeral will be held on Monday, March 15, 2021 at 9:00am from Maiorano Funeral Home, 95 Willow Street to Blessed Sacrament Church for a Mass at 10:00am. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery. Walk-through calling hours will be held on Sunday afternoon from 4:00-6:00pm. Everyone attending will be required to wear face masks, and social distancing guidelines will be strictly followed.
