WATERTOWN - Michael F. Murphy, 94, of Watertown, entered into the gates of heaven on Saturday, May 29, 2021, in the comfort of his home surrounded by his loving family. He was the loving husband of Lauretta (Pinto) Murphy.

Michael was born in Waterbury on May 30, 1926, son of the late Frank and Madalene (Tomalis) Murphy. Growing up in Waterbury, Michael attended Waterbury Public Schools, was a graduate of Crosby High School and after, proudly joined the United States Navy. During his time with the Navy, Michael was stationed aboard the U.S.S. Bon Homme Richard, served as signalman, and received the Victory Medal, American Theatre Medal, and the Asiatic-Pacific Medal with 2 stars, all of which he was very proud. After being honorably discharged, Michael received his Bachelor’s degree from Bryant University on the G.I. Bill. An avid tennis player, Michael was a president of the Watertown Tennis Club and a lifelong member of the YMCA. He was a voracious reader, and above all, an incredible listener. “In order to be interesting, you have to be interested”.'
He adored his grandchildren and great grandchild, and was incredibly involved with their passions and interests. He imparted his incredible wit, drive, and kindness to them all.

Besides his loving wife Lauretta, Michael leaves behind to cherish his memory his three children, Gary Murphy and his wife Christine of Bethlehem, Christine Makris and her husband Angelo of Southbury, and Lauren Lewis and her husband Luke of Sullivan’s Island, SC. He also leaves behind his six grandchildren, Meghan Murphy, Kate Murphy, Evan Makris and his fiancé Lilly O’Flaherty, Andre Makris, Georgia Lewis, Griffin Lewis, a great grandchild, Jamie, and a brother, George Murphy. He was predeceased by his siblings, Mary Andrews, John Murphy, Madeline DeFranco, and Thomas Murphy.
Arrangements: A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, June 3, 2021, 10:00 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Church in Watertown. There will be no calling hours. Everyone is kindly asked to meet directly at the church. Burial will follow with military honors at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Watertown. Brookside Memorial/The Albini Family Funeral Home & Crematory, 200 Benson Road, Middlebury, has been entrusted with handling Michael’s funeral arrangements.
