Obituary: Mildred Maskaitis, 85, of Naugatuck
She enjoyed traveling, flowers, animals, and lived life to the fullest.

NAUGATUCK – Mildred Margaret (Roman) Maskaitis, 85, of Naugatuck, passed away on Sunday, August 11, 2013 at Glendale Health Center.  She was the widow of John Maskaitis.Â
Mrs. Maskaitis was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on May 21, 1928, daughter of the late Alfred and Mildred (Kovacs) Roman.  She lived in Connecticut for the past 30 years, 11 of which she lived with her daughter in Naugatuck.  She enjoyed traveling, flowers, animals, and lived life to the fullest.  She was an avid reader with a large book collection and was actively involved in both the Naugatuck and Prospect Senior Centers.Â
She leaves her sons, Richard Grillo and his wife Joan of Middletown, N.Y., and Alfred Grillo and his wife Sharon of Fairfield, Conn.; her daughter, Marjorie Swarts and her husband Roderick of Naugatuck; six grandchildren; her step-son, John Maskaitis, Jr. and his wife Ann; three step-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren.  She was predeceased by her son, Robert Grillo.Â

Her funeral service will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 14 at 11 a.m. at the Naugatuck Valley Memorial/Fitzgerald Zembruski Funeral Home, 240 North Main St., Naugatuck.  Calling hours will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday morning from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service.  Reception will follow at Hillside Covenant Church. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Terryville.
