Waterbury, CT - Richard W. Howard, 91, of Waterbury, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 20, 2021 in his home with his loving family by his side. He was the beloved husband of Delores (Rubino).

Dick was born in Waterbury on November 16, 1929, son of the late Willian and Eva (Bendler) Howard. Richard was a graduate of Leavenworth High School, Class of 1947, where he played three years of baseball, then going on to play in the City Amateur League, and he became a popular pool and billiards player.

Dick then enlisted in the United States Army, and served honorably during the Korean Conflict, and was also a life-long member of the Veterans of Foreign War. On his first furlough, he married the love of his life, Delores Rubino, with whom he shared seventy years together. After retiring as a General Foreman in the manufacturing industry, he devoted his time to family, friends, and his favorite sport, golf! Dick was a member of the Watertown Golf Club, and had the good fortune of making 4 “hole in ones”.

Being a major recruiter for the Red Cross, Dick himself was a 25-gallon donor, Chairman of the Blood Service Committee for six years, and was also a member of the Board of Directors. As Mayor for the Day (1999), he received a citation from the State House of Representatives. Dick deeply loved his family and friends, and everyone loved him. His warm smile and charming personality made even strangers feel welcomed and loved.

Besides his loving wife Delores, Dick leaves behind to cherish his memory his two daughters, Debra Blancato and her husband Alfred of Farmington, Doreen Murphy and her husband Christopher of Waterbury, his five grandchildren, Christian Clews and his wife Carrie, Lauren Garofalo and her husband Paul, Allison Brancato, Devin Murphy, Kyle Murphy, and his three great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his seven siblings.

Arrangements: A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, April 24, 2021, 10:00 AM at Blessed Sacrament Church in Waterbury. Military honors will follow Mass outside of Blessed Sacrament. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family. There will be no calling hours. Everyone is kindly asked to meet directly at the church. Chase Parkway Memorial/The Albini Family Funeral Home, 430 Chase Parkway, Waterbury, CT, has been entrusted with handling Dick’s funeral arrangements.
