Obituary: Sophie C. Tammany, 99, of Naugatuck

Mrs. Tammany was a lifelong Naugatuck resident and retired from the Peter Paul candy factory.

Sophie C. (Sodloski) Tammany, age 99, passed away peacefully on Tuesday July 30, 2013 at Glendale Center.  She was widow of George B. Tammany.

Sophie was bon in Naugatuck, Conn., on Aug. 11, 1913, daughter of the late John and Alexandra (Tadjewski) Sodloski.  She was a lifelong resident of Naugatuck, and she had retired from Peter Paul Cadbury after 44 years of service. Sophie enjoyed traveling with her husband, bingo, horse racing, and knitting for her family and friends. One of her most memorable trips was traveling to the Centennial Kentucky Derby with her husband.

She was a communicant of St. Hedwig Church. Mrs. Tammany leaves two nephews, Dennis Synott and Thomas Sodloski; a grandniece  Barbara Krolick; her caregiver Joseph Ash; and many grandnieces and grandnephews.  She was predeceased by her two sisters, Helen Synott and Wanda Bartkowski; her two brothers, Henry and Adolph Sodloski; and her two nieces, Joyce (Sodloski) Ash and Dorothy Bartkowski. 

The family wishes to thank the staff and caregivers at Glendale Health Center for their special care and kindness. Her funeral will be held on Friday Aug. 2, 2013 at 10 a.m. from the Naugatuck Valley Memorial/Fitzgerald Zembruski Funeral Home, 240 North Main St., Naugatuck, to St. Hedwig Church, for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m.  Burial will follow in St. JamesCemetery, Cross Street, Naugatuck.  Calling hours will be held at the funeral home on Fridaymorning from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m.
