Quinnipiac University Biology Professor Honored For 50 Years

Quinnipiac University biology professor Joe Woods, of Wallingford, honored for 50 years of teaching

Hamden, CT – Quinnipiac University recently honored employees for reaching various employment milestones.

Joe Woods, of Wallingford, professor of biology, was at the top of the list. He was recognized for 50 years of teaching at Quinnipiac

“It really doesn’t seem like I’ve been at Quinnipiac for anywhere near 50 years,” he said, reflecting on a half century in Hamden. “Given the quality and caliber of the students in my classes and the vast number of colleagues with whom I have been associated all these years, time has never been a factor in my years of service to the university. It has always been viewed as a semester-by-semester component of my life’s progress.”

Woods received his bachelor’s degree in biology from St. Joseph’s University in Pennsylvania and earned a doctorate in philosophy from Rutgers University. He began teaching at Quinnipiac in August 1970. He chaired the biology department for three years and served 18 years as Dean of the School of Health Sciences.

“The overall experience has been heartening in the Quinnipiac environment,” added Woods, who said he plans to retire after one more year of teaching

Woods has also performed a different role at QU – Santa Claus. In past years, he’s dressed up as the Jolly Old Elf to hand out to hand out books, games and toys at the annual health sciences holiday party.
