NAUGATUCK, CT — Police are seeking the driver of a car which struck a utility pole on Spring Street early Saturday morning, resulting in the pole and live wires blocking the roadway.

At 1:51 a.m., a 2006 Kia Spectra was northbound on Spring Street in the area of Mallane Lane when it left the roadway and collided with a utility pole. The driver fled the scene, and police are currently working to apprehend the operator, police said.

The public is advised by police to avoid the area, as detour signs have been posted. Due to an already existing backlog of utility work, police expect the closure and restoration will take throughout the weekend.
