Applications now being accepted for 2021 Virtuosi Summer Music Institute
Two- and three-week classes begin July 12 for young adults and youth ages 13 and older
NEW BRITAIN, CT - May 14, 2021 - The Virtuosi Summer Music Institute, the educational arm of the Connecticut Virtuosi Chamber Orchestra, is now accepting applications for its two- and three-week classes for young adults and youth ages 13 and older beginning on July 12.
Classes will be led by masterful artists specializing in violin, viola, cello, double bass and piano, with specific emphasis on chamber music, orchestra, and music theory. Additionally, there will be master classes, individual instruction, fun educational activities and the opportunity for students to perform publicly.
“We are proud to present the 2021 Summer Music institute. Last year, we held a successful Institute with a limited number of students. This year, we hope to host a greater number of students as more youth receive the COVID-19 vaccine,” said Brunilda Myftaraj, Summer Music Institute Administrator. “This year’s world-class faculty has never been more dedicated. The 2021 Institute will feature music by Felix Mendelssohn, and students will perform great works alongside our faculty in Farmington and Hartford. We are ready to have our students enjoy performing music and socializing in a safe, fun environment after a long, difficult year.”
The Summer Music Institute is open to youth ages 13 and older, as well as young adults, who demonstrate a good command of their instrument and are able to perform in a variety of chamber music and advanced orchestral settings. In order to be considered for solo performance opportunities, a student must come with a prepared repertoire including a classical or romantic sonata, bravura piece, or concerto movement prepared prior to the start of the Institute. Piano accompaniment will be provided.
Three-week classes will run July 12-July 30; two-week classes will run July 18 through July 30. Applications, which are available on the Virtuosi Summer Music Institute website, must be emailed or returned by USPS mail by Wednesday, June 16. Early registration is encouraged. Financial options are available to those who qualify.
Faculty for the 2021 Virtuosi Summer Music Institute includes: Angelina Gadeliya, Piano; Nathaniel Baker, Piano; Blake Hansen, Piano; Adrian Sylveen, Violin and Orchestra; Brunilda Myftaraj, Violin; Jonathan Kane, Viola and Music Theory; Silvio Interlandi, Cello; and Andrea Mills, Cello.

ABOUT THE VIRTUOSI SUMMER MUSIC INSTITUTE
Since 2011, the Virtuosi Summer Music Institute and Festival has delighted audiences with performances of chamber music works and operas.
The Virtuosi Summer Music Institute and Festival addresses the need for intensive music education for talented and motivated students that is affordable yet rigorous, comprehensive, and provided by world-class instructors. It also exposes the students and the wider community to a series of diverse and inspiring performances including chamber orchestra, voice, and chamber music. After a year when live musical performance was limited or non-existent, and when funding for musical education at public schools was limited, it is even more important that students reconnect with the beauty and focus offered by music education and performance. The program is open to students who demonstrate a command of their instrument and are able to perform in a variety of musical settings.
