Newtown College Student Dies After Car Crash: Police
Brandon Hensel, a student at Central Connecticut State University, died Monday at Danbury Hospital, according to authorities.
NEWTOWN, CT — A 22-year-old college student involved a vehicle crash in Newtown early Sunday died Monday, police said.
Newtown resident Brandon Hensel, a student at Central Connecticut State University, died Monday at Danbury Hospital. He had been critically injured in the one-vehicle crash, which occurred at 5 a.m. on Toddy Hill Road.
"It is always a tragedy whenever a young person's life ends in a tragic accident such as this, I know that our officers did their best in providing first aid, but to have this outcome it hurts," said Newtown Police Lt. Aaron Bahamonde. "I know the town will be in mourning for the lost of this young man's life, and we pray keep the family in our minds and hearts as they deal with this tragedy."

First responders performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation on Hensel following the Sunday crash, before taking him to the hospital. Initial reports were that Hensel was unconscious when found after the crash, which took place near the intersection of Quarry Ridge Road
Bahamonde added that the department has "reached out to [the university] to provide whatever support and comfort for Brandon's professors and classmates."

Hensel was a 2016 graduate of Newtown High School, writes the Newtown Bee.
WFSB-TV reports that the Ford Explorer Hensel was driving was traveling northbound on Toddy Hill Road when it struck a curb and veered off the road.
Newtown police are conducting an investigation into the crash, and urge anyone with any information to contact the department at 203-426-5841.
