Newtown Offers Tips To Prepare For Hurricane Season

Tropical Storm Elsa is tracking toward Connecticut, and is expected to bring heavy rain and winds Thursday night and Friday.

NEWTOWN, CT — With Tropical Storm Elsa forecast to hit Connecticut Thursday night and Friday, Newtown officials are offering tips to help residents prepare for hurricane season.

"Hurricane season officially began June 1st and goes until November 30th," Newtown officials wrote. "Although our local experience has given us our most severe storms later in the summer and even the fall – we know severe weather conditions don’t really follow the calendar."

Tropical Storm Elsa, which lashed Florida this week before heading north, is expected to dump as much as 4 inches of rain in Connecticut, and three counties — Middlesex, New Haven and New London — are under a tropical storm warning.

Fairfield County is under flash flood watch, but the storm could also cause power outages throughout the region.
