Bluefish Dedicate 26 Seats to Sandy Hook Victims

More than 300 people were at the Bridgeport Bluefish’s Ballpark at Harbor Yard for a dedication ceremony Thursday night. The baseball team dedicated 26 seats to the victims of the Sandy Hook Elementary School tragedy in association with the Where Angels Play Foundation.

Representatives from 11 families who lost loved ones during the tragedy were present at the ceremony, according to Marisa Marvin, Director of Community Relations for the Bluefish.

Siblings of the school children lost into the tragedy ran out onto the field with the full Bluefish team. The players and kids stood for a moment of silence to honor those lost. The whole Bluefish team was wearing Sandy Hook bracelets.

Going forward, the 26 dedication seats will be reserved - as far as possible - for families and kids who otherwise would not be able to afford to go to a game. The Bluefish will allocate the tickets through non-profit organizations. Six of those seats will be wrapped in white for the six teachers that passed away on that day and 20 seats will be wrapped in blue for the students who passed away, according to the Bluefish website.

Thursday’s date for this event was selected to represent the six teachers that passed away on that December 14, 2012 day and for the 26 total people that lost their lives.
