Here Are The 10 Most Dangerous Roads In Newtown

A new report names the worst local roads in town. Did they miss any?

NEWTOWN, CT — The most dangerous roadway in town over the past four years is Rt. 84 with just over a thousand crashes.

The UConn Connecticut Crash Data Repository has crunched data from The Department of Public Safety and the state Department of Transportation.

These are Newtown’s most dangerous roads and routes from the past four years:

  1. Rt. 84 (1,028)
  2. Rt. 25 (528)
  3. Rt. 6 (361)
  4. Rt. 34 (282)
  5. Rt. 302 (108)
  6. Rt. 490 (74)
  7. Hattertown Road (70)
  8. Rt. 816 (64)
  9. Toddy Hill Road (57)

There were eight fatal Newtown crashes, and 31 with suspected serious injuries and 269 with suspected minor injuries. Overall there were 3,422 crashes between 2015 and halfway through December 2018.

There were more than 431,000 crashes on Connecticut roads and highways between 2015 and Dec. 17, 2018, according to the repository. Of that 1,074 involved fatal injuries.

The top 10 routes for crashes in Connecticut from 2015 to 2018 are:

  • I-95 (21,547)
  • I-84 (17,652)
  • CT-15 (16,620)
  • Rt. 1 (16,577)
  • I-91 (12,724)
  • Rt. 10 (7,063
  • Rt. 8 (5,932)
  • Rt. 6 (5,750)
  • Rt. 44 (5,137)

About three-quarters of all crashes happened during dry conditions.
