Newtown police responded last Wednesday to a report of a possible “unwanted person” on the premises of the former McGuire’s Ale House at 130 Mt. Pleasant Road, according to police.

Police said that William Jacobs, 45, had broken into the building and was found hiding from officers. Jacobs was found to be in the possession of several items that belonged to the owner and a hatchet, according to police.

Jacobs was charged with first-degree burglary, second-degree criminal mischief, second-degree criminal trespass, possession of a dangerous weapon and sixth-degree larceny. He was released on a $5,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court July 1.
