New Business, Vital Rain, Puts Down Roots in Newtown

Like the products they sell, Newtown's newest business Vital Rain has organic roots.

Paul Corey and Lidia Byhower say they co-founded the business after their son was born and they became aware of how many toxins are in our day-to-day lives.

"Our entire mission, since the beginning, has been to reduce the amount of toxins we all have in our homes and our every day lives," they write on their website.

Toward that end, they came up with a line of products that range from gentle baby lotion to powerful disinfectant washes. Vital Rain also just launched its own designer line of organic, hand-sewn cloth diapers, mama cloths, and nursing pads.

All the products are available online, on the company's website, and now at its flagship store, at 83 South Main St. in Newtown. The store also features a tea bar, kids play area, lounge and free wifi.

Vital Rain will celebrate its grand opening at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 10. The event will feature demos, games, face painting, food, crafts, raffles and giveaways, and the first 25 people will get a year of free tea.

Vital Rain will also be exhibiting at Destination Newtown, which runs from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 7.
