New Principal of Newtown High Coming From Pomperaug

Dr. Lorrie Rodrigue has been principal of the Region 15 high school for the past six years.

When Newtown High School students return from summer break they'll be greeted by a new principal, Dr. Lorrie Rodrigue.

She comes to Newtown from Pomperaug High School (PHS), where she has been principal for the past six years. Pomperaug is a high school that pulls students from Southbury and Middlebury, in the Region 15 district.

Newtown kicked off a search for a new prinicipal earlier this year following the resignation of Charles Dumais, who left the district to take a superintendent job of the Amity Region 5 School District in New Haven County.

Jeffrey Jaslow, the former Ridgefield High School Principal, has been at the helm of Newtown High since March 1 when Dumais left.

In announcing Rodrigue's departure, Region 15 Superintendent Regina Botsford called her a "gifted educator and principal."

“We were fortunate to have had her leadership at Pomperaug High School for the last 6 years and we look forward to building on her contributions in the future,” Botsford said.

In a letter to parents, Rodrigue shared the pleasure she derived from working with the outstanding high school staff at PHS, the engaged and supportive PTO and parent community, and the students whom she has come to know and respect during her time as principal.

“I will so miss the students of Pomperaug High School whose respect, hard work, and commitment to academic excellence have given me cause to be proud throughout my tenure,” Rodrigue said. “I have no doubt Pomperaug students will continue to demonstrate lifelong learning, service to their community, and dedication to the fields they pursue in the years ahead.”
