Newtown's football championship was celebrated across the country. The victory came on the seventh anniversary of the Sandy Hook shooting.

NEWTOWN, CT — The Newtown High School football team's last second state championship win was celebrated across the country Saturday. The victory came seven years to the day of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting. The team appeared on NBC Sport's halftime show Sunday night.
Quarterback Jack Street threw a 36-yard touchdown pass to Riley Ward on the final play of the game to give Newtown its first state championship win since 1992. The final score was 13 to 7 against football powerhouse Darien, which had won the title three times since 2015.
"The great thing about football and sports in general, moments like this brings people together," said head coach Bobby Pattison during the halftime show.
