Newtown High School Football Coach Resigns: Report
After 10 straight winning seasons, Newtown high School football coach Steve George is retiring.
NEWTOWN, CT — Newtown High School football coach Steve George has retired, according to the News Times. Coach George and his team has won 10 straight seasons. His high school football team was honored with $2,000 from the NY Jets/Chase Bank award in 2014.
George won the New York Jets High School Coach of the Week Award is given to coaches in the tri-state area who, according to their website, “serve the best interests of the game through the teaching of sound football fundamentals, the motivation of young players to achieve, and the promotion of youth football by way of dedication to their communities, their schools and their student-athletes.”
George has been an inspiration to his team and created T-shirts--awarded only to those with perfect attendance at the workouts — which spell out the schedule in a nutshell: "COMMITMENT IS: 35 DAYS, 70 HOURS, 1000'S of REPS AND UNCONDITIONAL DESIRE!"
