Newtown Joins Economic Development Initiative

Communities can accrue points for economic and green initiatives.

NEWTOWN, CT --- Newtown has joined neighboring towns Brookfield and Ridgefield and 34 other municipalities in Sustainable CT, an economic development program started last November by the Institute for Sustainable Energy at Eastern Connecticut State University and the Connecticut Conference of Municipalities.

Participating towns can join Sustainable CT for free and are rewarded through a point system for achieving certain economic and environmental goals. The accrued points give municipalities tangible bragging rights meant to make the community more attractive to prospective residents and developers. Towns can also get grants through the program.
