Newtown Man Threatened Law Enforcement On Twitter: Police

NEWTOWN, CT — Police have accused a Sandy Hook man of threatening law enforcement officials on social media.

State police received a complaint at 11:43 a.m. Wednesday from a resident of Virginia reporting the threatening tweet, which read "imma kill a cop today and when they ask me why I did it, imma tell them he was acting nervous and looked at me wrong."

The Western District Major Crime Squad was assigned to investigate the incident and were assisted by State Troopers from Troop A in Southbury.

The police have accused Alexander Timothy Hassinger, 24, of Shady Rest Boulevard in Sandy Hook of posting the tweet.

Hassinger was placed under arrest at his residence at 5:10 p.m. on Wednesday, and charged with first-degree harassment and second-degree breach of peace. He was released on a $10,000 bond and is scheduled to appear before Waterbury Superior Court on July 15.
