Newtown Named Connecticut's Safest Community For 2021

The designation was made by the home security company SafeWise.

NEWTOWN, CT — Newtown is Connecticut's safest community, according to a new report this week by the home security company SafeWise.

The town's rate of property crime incidents in the past year dropped from 4.4 per 1,000 people to 2.1 per 1,000 people, and Newtown reported only one robbery in the last year. Additionally, there were five aggravated assaults, which also were down, SafeWise said.

"We like to take the credit, but the truth of the matter is, it's the strength and kindness of our community, that makes our jobs keeping you safe successful," wrote Newtown Police Lt. Aaron Bahamonde on Facebook.
