Newtown Police Blotter Aug. 9-25

DUI arrests, multiple crashes with injuries and other reports from Newtown Police.

NEWTOWN, CT — Below are items from the Newtown Police Department from Aug. 9 through Aug. 25.

DUI Arrests
Jonathan Lema, 33, of Derby was arrested Aug. 23 after a motor vehicle crash on Berkshire Road. He was charged with DUI, operating a vehicle without an interlock ignition device, failure to drive in the proper lane and operating without a license.

Stephanie Scott, 31, of Newtown was charged with DUI and speeding after being stopped by police Aug. 17.

Hit-and-Run Crash

Police are investigating a crash that took place Aug. 22 in the TJ Maxx parking lot. A woman driving an SUV struck a parked vehicle and left the scene without reporting the crash. Any witnesses are asked to contact the police department.
Cadillac Flips Over After Hitting Pole

A Cadillac flipped over on its roof after a crash in the area of Ethan Allen Road after it struck a utility pole, according to police.

Police were called about an erratic operator on S. Main St. Aug. 25. Police caught up with the vehicle and noticed it had a flat front right tire. Police were going to attempt to stop the vehicle, but it went off the road and struck a utility pole.

The driver was transported to Danbury Hospital. The crash is still under investigation.

Truck Unloading Soda Hit
A driver was taken to the hospital after striking a tractor trailer that was unloading cases of soda near the Newtown General Store Aug. 9.

The operator of a Kia Sorento struck the powered cargo lift gate of the tractor trailer, which caused her vehicle to flip over.

The crash remains under investigation.

Minor Crashes

  • A vehicle operator accidently hit the gas instead of the brake and struck a light pole in a parking lot behind Reed School Aug 24.
  • A Jeep Wrangler was rear-ended at the intersection of South Main Street by a Ford Fusion Aug 17. No injuries were reported and the offending operator was issued a verbal warning.
