Newtown Police Crash Investigations Mid-July

Recent crash investigations by Newtown Police.

NEWTOWN, CT — Newtown Police investigated a handful of recent motor vehicle crashes. Below are reports from July 11-13 and June 30.

  • A three-car rear-end crash near Holy Cow Ice Cream Shop on Church Hill Road sent one person to the hospital due to reported head pain July 11. One operator was issued an infraction for following too closely.
  • A driver went through a stop sign without stopping on Hanover Road July 12 and struck another vehicle. The crash sent a vehicle off-road into a ditch. One operator was transported to the hospital for possible injury and another said she would go to the emergency department herself for an evaluation.
  • A vehicle crossed the centerline near Barnabus Road and Tunnel Road July 13. The operator was issued an infraction for failure to keep right at an intersection.
  • A driver went into the right turn only lane on South Main Street June 30 and then cut back in front of another vehicle and in doing so struck the passenger side front bumper. One passenger was cleared by EMS as a precaution after having major surgery. The offending operator, Thomas Durkin, of Danbury was issued a summons for operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license and improper passing, police said.
