Newtown Police Issue 30 Infractions for Distracted Driving
Nearly 20 of them were for cell phone violations, including six for texting.
Newtown Police saw a flood of activity during its third wave of distracted driving enforcement.
The crackdown was part of a coordinated effort with area departments, that ran from March 27 to April 2 in Redding, Ridgefield, Bethel, Brookfield, and Newtown.
The distracted driving enforcement was conducted in Newtown on March 29. Here are the results, as provided by police:Â

- 19 infractions and 4 written warnings for cell phone use (6 of those infractions were for texting)
- 9 infractions and  6 written warnings for seat belt violations
- 2 infractions for moving violations
- 3 written warnings for equipment violations
- 1 misdemeanor summons for cell phone use and operation a vehicle with a suspended license
The total is 30 infractions, 12 warnings, and 1 misdemeanor summons.
The department said the operation was the third of four waves of enforcement being funded by a grant through the DOT highway safety office, entitled Texting Ban Enforcement Demonstration.
