Newtown Police Nab NYC Men For Forgery

Police say the men attempted the same scam at a Shelton Bank before police there caught on.

NEWTOWN, CT — Police responded to a call from a bank reporting an attempt to cash a stolen check, according to their report.

Around 3:00 p.m. on Friday, Newtown Savings Bank called the Newtown Police Department to report that Quantae Jaquan Nixon, 28, of Brooklyn, was trying to cash a check for $20, 549.80., which bank officials believed was stolen.

When police "arrived and determined that the check was indeed stolen," they say they were informed that a second man, Desmond Lindo, 26, of the Bronx, was waiting for Nixon inside a motor vehicle in the parking lot.

Previously, both men had cashed a $17, 990 check at the Newtown Savings Bank - Trumbull Branch, according to police. They also attempted to cash a stolen check at the Newtown Savings Bank in Shelton before becoming suspicious and leaving prior to Shelton police arriving, according to the police report.

Police took both men into custody and charged them with third-degree forgery, first-degree conspiracy to commit larceny, and issuing a bad check over $2,000. Both were held on a $50,000 bond.
