Newtown Police Remind Thanksgiving Travelers to 'Click It or Ticket'

The Newtown Police Department is launching a seat belt safety campaign over the Thanksgiving holiday.

NEWTOWN, CT — From November 21, 2016 thru November 28, 2016, Newtown law enforcement personnel will be using a combination of traditional and innovative strategies to crack down on motorists who are not wearing their seat belts. This effort is a part of the statewide “Click it or Ticket Initiative”.

The 2016 Thanksgiving “Click it or Ticket Initiative” is a part of a high-visibility enforcement campaign that combines intense enforcement of travelers that fail to wear their seatbelt with advertising and media outreach to let people know about the enforcement and convince them to obey the law.

“ With the Thanksgiving Weekend quickly approaching, Newtown Law Enforcement personnel, in an effort to promote safe driving and increase the protection of all motorist will be actively looking for those motorist who choose not to wear their seat belts and will be issuing citations to those who are found unbuckled ” said Sgt.Aaron Bahamonde.

Bahamonde said wearing a seat belt can reduce the risk of a fatal injury by 45 percent and is why, he said, your community needs to know that wearing a seat belt can make the difference between life and death.
