Newtown Police Search For Man Who Tried To Steal Fuel Oil

The suspect also assaulted a garage employee who tried to stop him.

NEWTOWN, CT — Newtown police are asking for the public's help in finding a suspect who tried to steal fuel oil on Mt. Pleasant Road, and who assaulted a person who tried to stop him, according to authorities.

The incident occurred at about 6:15 a.m. on Friday when a man driving a white Chevrolet Astro van was spotted siphoning fuel oil from a parked piece of heavy machinery in a lot next to Hilario's Garage on Mt. Pleasant Road.

"The Hispanic male driver was interrupted by a Hilario's employee, and the Hispanic male
assaulted the Hilario's employee before driving off," Newtown police said.

The Astro van had no visible license plates, and no other description of the thief/assailant was given.
