Newtown School Calendar 2019-20: First Day Of School, Vacations

NEWTOWN, CT — The first day of school in Newtown is August 26 — and whether you and the kids are looking forward to the new school year or are dreading the end of summer, you'll want to mark the date on your calendar ASAP. The school district has released its 2019-2020 calendar for public schools.

The calendar includes important dates such as winter and spring vacations, religious holidays, federal holidays, early dismissals and parent-teacher conferences.

Aug 26-28, three hour early dismissal for staff development.

September
September 2 Labor Day, no school
September 30 Rosh Hashanah, no school

October
October 4 2 hour delayed opening for staff development
October 9 Yom Kippur, no school
October 23-25, elementary, Reed and Middle School conferences, three hour early dismissal

November
November 5 Election Day, school closed for students, staff development day
November 12 and 13 High school conferences, 2 hour early dismissal
November 27 Two hour early dismissal for holiday
November 28 & 29 Thanksgiving Holiday, no school

December
December 20 Two hour early dismissal for students and staff
December 23-31 Holiday Recess, no school

January 1, no school
January 17, Two hour delayed opening for staff development.
January 20 Martin Luther King Day, no school

Feb. 14 Three hour early dismissal for staff development

Reed Intermediate: Sept. 12
Middle School: Aug. 28, gr. 7 Aug. 29, gr. 8
High School: Sept. 19
Please Note: State of Connecticut mandates 180 calendar days for students. Beyond the projected June 9 date, school cancellation days will be made up by adding days through June 30. By Mar. 13 if there are more than 8 cancellations, April 3 will be a full day of school.
